Even the most horrendous of bridezillas becomes a bride at Angela
Daniel Jewellery with an exquisite collection of rings at her fingertips,
in beautiful styles and stones. Jewellery connoisseur Angela Daniel
has been helping brides and grooms find the perfect engagement and
wedding bands for more than five years and knows how to negotiate
this often long and tricky process. Angela now divulges the simple
steps to ensure the groom chooses a ring to make his future fiancé’s
heart soar and the bride lines up a ring that is realistic as well
as romantic.
Price?
It appears Britney Spears isn’t so out of fashion! While there
are traditionalists that stick to the three month salary philosophy,
women are increasingly doing a lot of research into rings themselves
and offering instruction! This doesn’t just mean the man will
end up spending a lot more to make sure they have a smiling fiancé
but a sign of the times. Women are contributing money so they make
sure the ring on their finger is the biggest and best it can be!
Size?
Yes, size really does matter. The main value in a diamond is its
carat weight. Colour and clarity is not considered as significant
so to even the most demure bride, the larger stone is more attractive!
Angela says the stone must still be colourless and without noticeable
inclusions or ones that affect the durability of the stone. After
all this diamond is forever isn’t it?
Always a diamond?
Not these days. In fact, coloured stones such as emeralds, sapphires
and ruby’s are becoming more fashionable, particularly in
art deco settings.
Trends.
There is a lot more freedom in recent years when choosing an engagement
ring. Wide, flashy dress rings that serve as both an engagement
and wedding band are the trend du jour – think Victoria Beckham!
If you do choose to have two rings, the wedding band is now often
worn on the right hand to ensure it doesn’t compromise the
style of the engagement ring. White gold is still popular, as well
as the mixing of metals such as rose and white and yellow and white
gold. Solitaires will never go out of fashion and there is more
demand for the fancy shapes like Ascher and marquise cuts.
New emerging styles.
It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that bling factor.
More and more engagement rings feature a centre stone with shoulder
stones as opposed to just a solitaire. Remember Nicole Richie’s
first engagement ring? It was an emerald cut stone with smaller
baguettes to the side. Angela is particularly excited about a one
carat round brilliant surrounded by smaller diamonds to give the
illusion of a much larger stone. The diamonds then cover the shoulders
and band.
How much does a groom need to know when choosing a ring?
Boys be informed – listen to what the love of your life says!
When helping a groom choose an engagement ring a jeweller needs
to know what metal the bride-to-be wears e.g. white gold, yellow
gold or platinum. What style she likes ie solitaire, mixed stone
band or classic three stone. Does she like diamonds or coloured
stones and is she wanting something simple or something unique and
custom made. Also take into account her colouring. Red heads with
fair skin look fantastic with rose gold and emeralds.
How much other jewellery should a bride wear on the day?
Not a lot – it is all about the dress of course. Stick to
clean simple lines. A diamond or pearl bracelet and earrings is
stunning and if the hair is up and she wears a strapless gown something
very delicate around the neck like a small diamond pendant on a
fine gold wire.
Heirloom pearls that are restrung and redesigned to suit the dress
are always beautiful.
Let’s not forget the bridesmaids gift.
All bridesmaids deserve a special piece of jewellery and earrings
or a necklace specially chosen by the bride. Pearls are fashionable
and not too expensive. Angela has been working with a lot of brides
recently designing mixed coloured pearls and semi precious necklaces
and earrings to match dresses.
So, follow the rules of engagement and the only tears on the day
will be ones of joy, or possibly envy as the bride’s friends
wish they had a gorgeous ring like that too.
Angela Daniel Jewellery stores are in Nuffield Street and in Sylvia
Park.
